I used to work in a well known New York ad agency and my account was Jell-O(R) gelatin. (Note the use of the R - for registered trademark. I was well trained!) To be clear, I did not work on the Jell-O pudding account; that job belonged to my friend Belle. I was paid to explore new ways to use Jell-O so that its appeal would continue to grow. In the ad world, these new uses are called line extensions. I was paid to travel from NYC to White Plains NY (the home of Jell-O) to taste pies, cakes, cookies and ice-cream toppings made from Jell-O. Once we made a tv commercial about Jell-O pies. One of the copywriters wrote a jingle that went something like this: "It's a fresh and fruity pie, that you really ought to try. Jell-O gelatin, now it's the one." I used to think to myself, "if I'm going to work in an industry as silly as advertising, I might as well work on an account as silly as Jell-0". Thank you, Maggie and Aimee, for triggering this trip down memory lane!
Now that's an idea. Call it "Jell-O Tales". Maybe it's a book....or maybe a podcast...or an entire YouTube channel? We could research it together. Aimee has already dug pretty deep. PS: nothing beats this classic Jell-O fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22-1Pm85Rds.
I would totally read this tell-all book! I would also settle just for hearing more of your stories if you don't feel like taking the trouble to write it all out.
Super Extra points for including a poem by Charles Henry!
Aimee is THE SHIT. <3
Your friend is very smart, and right about many things, but this slander against celery will not stand! <3
Oh, poor old celery. Even when not the object of malign, it ends up being maligned anyhow. We love you, celery!
