I vote for you wearing sweats. I am now strangely obsessed with a salt shaker muscle…. What could this be? How does one cultivate it? What happens if you exercise it too much? I also vote for you doing whatever the hell makes you feel fulfilled and with purpose. If that’s here- awesome- I’ll keep reading and subscribing. If that’s something else - great. I hope we still get to hear about it somehow.

Erin!!! Stay tuned re: salt shaker muscle; mainly I am obsessed with the word in Spanish hahha. Felt like a good time to take a breath though. Thank you for the love and support always. I promise to keep sharing silly and inane observations one way or another! 😽

Thoughts: 1) I love your writing on any topic and will miss you here, but I get it! Take that break. You really do deserve it. 2) As someone who pays for NYT and BA and your and Dennis's Substacks, I feel quite chuffed with myself. But you all are worth every penny. You're all of great value to me. It frustrates me that other people don't see that (which is why we're in this mess to begin with). 3) I'm also mystified by the sweats-all-the-time thing. Don't the youths want to turn a look anymore? Do they think sweats ARE a look? Baffling.

Nick! Thank you. You're such a good one and your support is sooo appreciated! Thanks for believing in the value of written words on this very digital planet. ALSO I feel like the youth do think sweats = turning a lewk, down to the way they cut off the necks for shoulder Xposure and excessively bedazzle with Temu-ish jewelry. I guess they're way more comfy at school though, which I'm a little jealous of.

I, for one, will miss seeing Maggie's Little Stories show up in my inbox (so please don't go away for too long), but I am glad I get to read your wonderful writing in so many other outlets. And if you're not wearing obnoxiously large, clown-like sweatpants the next time I see you, I will shame you.

Oh, how I love you! I don't think this is the end. But I definitely want to reassess this little thing. Thank you for being such a meaningful source of support just always. Omg now I'm going to start scouring the internet for balloon-shaped sweatpants, which I will wear to our next outing, during which we'll probably both pee our pants from laughing?! <3

I love your honest voice and words. And agree, it gets quite confusing when your best working posts are accidental and your proudest work disappears because it does not create a snappy headline. Hope to be able to follow your brain meanderings one way or the other. And -obviously - applauding your NYT work... Which as a 60+ I am happy to read and pay for... Because how else can we / you make a living?

Shelia! Thank you for your very kind and thoughtful words. What a strange time to be a writer. Then again, I’ve always struggled with the idea of “success” when the hustle so often pulls us away from what matters. I will be sure to keep you posted on my brain meanderings, which is a glorious phrase, by the way. :) Thank you for the support, and looking forward to following your work also!

Do what you need to do and I’m so glad you’re getting your stories in other spaces! I have my own conflicting feelings about Substack and kind of hate it’s the only place where my words live now but…it’s the only place where my words live now 🫠🫠🫠🫠

I think that’s great! I still love Substack. It’s felt like a freer place where I’ve fallen in love with individual voices again. (And I love yours!) We’ve all been so scattered and fragmented, you know? I’m just trying to figure out where to put energy.
