What the heck is Shrimp Martin?

Artist Katie Kimmel shares the creative inspiration behind her whimsical, food-themed apparel.

Katie Kimmel is a California-based artist working mainly in ceramic sculpture. Then, six years ago, her best friend gave her a heat press. She made a shirt for fun that said “linguine and clams” in charmingly askew lettering, which she posted on her Instagram stories. Before long, she became kind of famous for her line of food-themed clothing. (I own two of her t-shirts, in fact.)

I asked Katie to share a bit of what inspires her (hint: party recipes and musings from the below, glorious Kiwanis cookbook is currently in heavy rotation).

There’s also a hilariously random selection of food items from the notes app in Katie’s phone—as some of her best ideas come to her in the middle of the night. Katie is hilarious and fun—as was this conversation.

P.S. You can buy Katie’s home goods, apparel and artwork on her website.

P.P.S. The recipe for Shrimp Martin is below.
